SPS (04/24): Searching for physics beyond the Standard Model in the decay and mixing of the two neutral K mesons
Prof Norman Christ is going to come and talk about his research!
Hello! 🌸
This Thursday (04/24), Prof. Norman Christ will give a talk at SPS about his research on Searching for physics beyond the Standard Model in the decay and mixing of the two neutral K mesons! The abstract is attached below!
Abstract:
The K^0 meson and its antiparticle decay into lighter mesons and mix with each other because of the failure of the weak interactions to conserve the “strangeness” quantum number. Their decays and weak-interaction-induced mass difference (3.484 x 10^{-12} MeV) are highly sensitive to physics at very large energies, far beyond those accessible to current accelerators. I’ll describe lattice QCD calculations that are now underway to predict these phenomena within in Standard Model of particle physics looking to see if such unforeseen high energy effects are present.
We will have food as usual! 🍕 Hope to see you there! 🎈✨🪁
Best,
SPS Board <3
